달라이 라마, "사람..."

달라이 라마

(ཏ་ཱལའི་བླ་མ་ taa-la’i bla-ma[Dalai Lama], 텐진갸초[བསྟན་འཛིན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་], 1935~ )는

               '인류에 대해 가장 놀랐던 것이 무엇인지 물었을 때 이렇게 대답하다.'

“사람이죠. 왜냐하면 사람은 돈을 벌기 위해 건강을 희생하고

건강을 회복하기 위해 돈을 씁니다.

그리고 사람은 미래에 대해 너무 걱정하여

현재를 즐기지 않습니다.

그 결과 사람은 현재도 미래도 살지 못하지요

사람은 절대 죽지 않을 것처럼 살지만

제대로 살아보지도 못하고 죽습니다.”

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered

“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”
